And I still love it! I didn’t wake up one day knowing I wanted to be a translator. Like many language lovers, I just knew I had a thing for words early on. English was always my favorite subject at school, and I found myself drawn to books, songs, and films in other languages. I remember feeling this strange sense of joy whenever I understood a line of dialogue or a lyric without needing the subtitles. That’s probably when the seed was planted.
My path to becoming a professional translator wasn’t perfectly linear, but it was always grounded in curiosity, creativity, and a deep respect for communication. I officially made the switch to full-time freelance translation because it combined everything I loved: language, writing, cultural nuances, and constant learning. It gave me a way to bridge worlds and make things clearer, more accessible, and more relatable for people on either side of the language barrier.
What keeps me passionate after all this time? Honestly, it’s the variety and the challenge. No two projects are the same. One day I’m localizing marketing copy for a global brand, and the next I’m translating a legal contract or editing subtitles for a video. Each task is like a puzzle, where tone, intention, and accuracy all have to line up. I enjoy figuring out how to say something in a way that feels natural, fluent, and true to the original message.
I also love that translation forces me to keep learning. New vocabulary, new industries, new tools—it’s an ongoing education. And as someone who works with both English and Spanish, I get to celebrate the beauty and quirks of both languages every single day.
But above all, it’s about connection. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that my work helps people understand each other, share ideas, and do business across borders. It might seem like “just words” to some, but to me, it’s a deeply human craft.
Yes, translation can be demanding. It takes precision, patience, and a lot of coffee. But it also gives me purpose, freedom, and a reason to stay endlessly curious. I chose translation because it felt right, and I’m still in love with it because it keeps proving me right.
