This time around I’d like to discuss localization. I think sometimes we think of it as separate of translating, but I think they are very linked.
Whenever we do a translation, unless very technical or legal, we need to localize it for the target language, otherwise, it would sound like machine translation, not human translation. We need to make sure it sounds fluid and understandable by anyone who speaks the language.
We also need to think about the target audience and what kind of language and idioms they use, to make sure that what we translate will appeal to them.
